High-Quality Insulation Materials Used
Fiberglass is one of the most common industrial insulation materials used in a wide variety of commercial applications. It’s highly effective, fire-resistant and affordable. It’s available in batts (installed as strips) and rolls, loose-fill blown out by machines, rigid boards for duct insulation and insulated concrete forms.
Crawlspace insulation wool is another common form of thermal insulation. It is made from a combination of natural and synthetic materials, including rock and slag wool (both of which are post-industrial recycled content), plastic fibers, cotton and sheep’s wool. It’s non-flammable and typically has a R-value of 3.0 to 3.3 per inch of thickness. It can be installed as blanket or loose-fill, and it’s often used with fiberglass in new construction and as a replacement for older fiberglass insulation in existing homes.

Cellulose and spray foam insulation are also popular options for a wide range of applications. Cellulose is made from recycled paper, primarily newspaper and treated with a fire retardant. It’s one of the more eco-friendly insulation materials, and it can be tightly packed into wall cavities to a dense density for maximum performance. It does require a professional installation, and can be more expensive than other insulation products. It can also pose health risks if not properly handled during installation, but proper ventilation and wearing protective gear mitigates this.
Polyurethane foam is a newer type of insulation. It’s a spray-in-place product that can be applied to a variety of surfaces and is a good choice for sealing gaps and voids. It can be applied to walls, roofs and ceilings and is available in both open-cell and closed-cell versions. It offers a higher R-value than other insulation materials, and is very durable and cost-effective, but it’s not the most environmentally friendly option.
